Volunteer Opportunities

There is a growing need in our communities to support those who are self-isolating due to COVID-19. Many people have stepped up and are generously looking to give their time and resources during this time of need.

While many agencies do not have the resources to onboard new volunteers at this time, we have assembled some local opportunities for those looking to support their neighbours. There are many ongoing grassroots initiatives, and we apologize if we missed any. Please contact us to inquire about having your group/initiative listed on this page.

PLEASE NOTE: Ottawa Public Health recommends that anyone volunteering to deliver food and other essential items take precautions to protect their health and the health of those around them. Here are some some recommendations from Ottawa Public Health to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19):

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you have just cleaned your hands
  • Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or into your arm, not your hand
  • Practice social distancing (maintain ideally 2 metres between yourself and others)
  • Stay home and do not partake in in-person volunteering if you are sick

For volunteers delivering items to those in self-isolation, Ottawa Public Health is recommending that packages be left at the individual’s door. The volunteer can then knock on the door and move to a safe distance (2 metres/6 feet) to allow the person in self-isolation to get their items. Please ensure that you use hand sanitizer or wash your hands after you have delivered the item.
